056: From incurable disease to med-free (1 man’s story)
What would you do if you found out you had an incurable, life-altering condition?
That’s a tough question, but it’s one my guest today has tried to answer for nearly a decade.
When Phillip Stutts was still in his 30s, he was diagnosed with achalasia — a rare disorder of the esophagus that makes eating almost impossible and that typically affects people in their 60s, 70s, and 80s.
It would have been very easy for Phillip to throw up his hands and give up. After all, there’s NO cure for achalasia.
But that’s not what Phillip did. Instead, he resolved to not only defeat his condition, but to find a cure — something most medical professionals think is impossible.
On this episode of the podcast, Phillip and I will chat about how the Plant Paradox helped him get off his medications, how he stays positive despite the setbacks, and the 1 thing you should NEVER skimp on.
This is one of the most inspiring, empowering conversations I’ve ever had on this podcast — so be sure to tune in.
In this episode, you’ll learn:
- The “moonshot” trick for accomplishing your biggest, most ambitious goals (5:00)
- How I convinced one of my biggest critics (and a huge skeptic of my work) that the Plant Paradox diet really does work (9:40)
- The “kicking the can” method for sticking to your diet goals and staying healthy — even when you’re traveling (12:20)
- The one thing that can NEVER be “too expensive” — and why it’s maybe the most important thing you can do for your health (19:00)
- Why Parkinson’s Disease is actually connected to your GUT — and how you can start protecting yourself with one simple supplement (20:00)
- Why a medical setback or a scary diagnosis can actually be a blessing in disguise: “It was the best thing that ever happened to me” (31:00)
- The surprising way taking care of your daily health can be cheaper than a cup of coffee at Starbucks (33:20)
- A shocking new source of lectins — and why you should start avoiding this “superfood” immediately (43:00)
- The one food I never travel without (44:15)

I have enjoyed all your episodes! I am 54 with no major health problems. I listened to, then bought all of your books because they really made sense to me. I feel good and have more energy. I’m currently taking your Enhanced Circulation Formula as I have a family history of heart disease and stroke. I HAD high cholesterol but am no longer taking statins after starting the Plant Paradox eating program 8 months ago.
