055: She was “trapped” in a wheelchair – until she did THIS

by | Sep 2, 2019 | 4 comments

Can you imagine what it would feel like to be confined to an electric wheelchair for years… and then one day, being able to walk and even ride your bike again?

Well, my guest knows exactly what that feels like — and says FOOD helped her get her life back.

On this episode of the Dr. Gundry Podcast, I speak with Dr. Terry Wahls, a professor at the University of Iowa Carver College of Medicine, a modern day medical marvel, and a good friend of mine.

In 2000, Dr. Wahls was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis, an autoimmune disease that affects more than more than 2.3 million people worldwide.

But after years of steady decline, she was able to turn things around.

In 2007, she began a hunter-gatherer diet that employes FOOD as medicine.

And the results were astonishing.

Within a year, Dr. Wahls was able to walk through the hospital without a cane, and even ride a bike!

Tune in to learn more about her journey, and how the right diet can dramatically decrease the symptoms of M.S. and other serious health problems.

In this episode you’ll learn:

    • The eye-opening science experiment Dr. Wahls conducted… on herself  (7:40)
    • How to “rewire” your brain to improve mobility (hint: it doesn’t require medicine) (14:10)
    • Why there were some tears during the taping (14:30)
    • The “rainbow approach” to reducing and reversing your MS symptoms (16:20)
    • How to strengthen your marriage when you’re suffering from an autoimmune disease (18:30)
    • How many cups of veggies you should eat every day for optimal health (it’ll make your jaw drop) (27:25)
    • How fungus can reduce brain fog (28:30)
    • Why I want my patients to act like gorillas in Italy (32:00)
    • The reason Dr. Wahls has a “poop shrine” in her home (32:25)
    • What your poop says about your health (34:00)
    • 3 “danger foods” to avoid at all costs if you have an autoimmune disease (35:15)
    • The doctor-approved way to eat red meat (37:00)
    • The superfood you should cook in bacon fat (41:00)
    • How Dr. Wahls takes on haters who say she’s giving people “false hope” about getting better (45:25)
