068: Eat THIS during the holidays (Dr’s Orders)
Welcome to the Dr. Gundry podcast!
The holiday season is officially here… and you deserve to enjoy it to the fullest.
But historically speaking, a big part of the holidays includes eating foods that wreak havoc on our health.
That’s why indigestion, irregularity, and weight gain are so common this time of year.
The good news is, you don’t have to fall into the “winter weight gain trap.”
On this episode of the Dr. Gundry Podcast, I share my tips for enjoying the holiday season without sacrificing the lean, healthy body you want in the process.
On this episode, you’ll learn:
-
- How much weight the average American gains between Thanksgiving and New Years. The answer is SHOCKING! (0:25)
- The one thing to NEVER do before a holiday party (1:25)
- The classic cocktail snack that is DEADLY for your gut (2:10)
- Why I always look like I’m cutting the line at the buffet (3:40)
- How I eat hard boiled eggs… for dessert (6:10)
- The simple catch phrase to say to avoid feeling deprived (my wife Penny says this all the time!) (7:00)
- Some good news if you like to drink at holiday parties (or just in general) (9:15)
- The reason I didn’t drink, smoke, or toke at Yale… but still enjoyed myself at college parties (this applies to real-life adults too!) (11:20)
- My “night owl” trick for preventing heartburn (12:45)
- The #1 supplement you should take during the holidays (and on airplanes too!) (14:45)
- The surprising cereal you CAN eat on the Plant Paradox program (16:10)
- The LEAST important meal of the day (17:15)

Thank Dr Gundry.
One question please, that I cannot find has been addressed.
Is IGF1 in red meat equally present in game, like Elk and Deer, as in beef?
Kind regards Tore Kjellevold, Norway
Another great podcast! As far as future topics, though, I’d love to hear more about treating (curing?) diabetics with the Gundry diet. Thank you so much for all that you do. Huge fan.
Excellent podcast. Off subject, what do you think of the research showing fish oil increases prostate cancer?
Thank you for your straight talk, backed by scientific evidence, and for making it understandable to the layperson.
Have you done any research on dietary restrictions -in addition to what you recommend in your books- for those with Hashimoto’s A/I disease, or hypothyroidism, (i.e. for those who are trying to bring down inflammation?). Thank you.
Hi Doctor G!
First of all I’m so grateful for you and your precious advice. I listen to your podcasts avidly. I read your book and although I never eat junk food (I’m from Italy and I eat olive oil daily), I stay away from sugar, fried food…But to reward myself after a particularly hard day at work, I’ll have a little square of dark chocolate (95%) and one glass of red wine with my meals. Thumbs up right? 🙂
