136: Allergies? You’ve GOT to hear this

by | Feb 1, 2021 | 2 comments

It seems like every year, more and more patients come to my office with full-blown food allergies.

It is NOT my imagination, either. Since the year 2000, the rate of food allergy in the global population has nearly DOUBLED.

And in the U.S., it’s estimated that as many as 26 million adults and at least 5 million children may have an allergy to peanuts, shellfish, dairy, or other foods.

Well, according to my guest today, there IS something you can do about.

Dr. Kari Nadeau is the director of the Sean N. Parker Center for Allergy and Asthma Research at Stanford University and one of the world’s leading experts on food allergy.

Along with her co-author Sloan Barnett, she’s written a brand new book called The End of Food Allergy: The First Program to Prevent and Reverse a 21st-Century Epidemic.

On today’s episode, Dr. Nadeau and I are going to bust some food allergy MYTHS, talk about the BEST way to prevent your child from suffering from food allergies, and discuss how to get rid of food allergies for good.

In this episode, you’ll learn:

  • Why being “clean” might actually be making us sicker (2:00)
  • The “furry” way to protect infants from allergies (5:45)
  • The shocking reason why 50% of newborns in London are at risk of food allergies and increased inflammation (7:30)
  • The fat that’s missing from the skin of people suffering with eczema and psoriasis (and why Sophia Loren’s beauty advice may have been right after all) (10:15)
  • One “healthy” habit that sent allergies skyrocketing in Australia (14:15)
  • The only time it’s OK to feed your kids peanuts (17:20)
  • Why your genes DON’T mean your child will also have allergies (20:25)
  • Which foods expectant moms should eat MORE of (and which to avoid) (22:15)
  • The common medical test that nearly killed me (26:45)
  • Why some people develop allergies as adults (31:15)
  • Why there isn’t an “allergy pill” (but why there might be one soon) (37:30)
  • The “gluten-free” food with a lectin that acts just like gluten (44:15)
