Dr. Gundry, I have been following the first week diet for weeks now. When I follow it, it has worked. However, my doctor recently put me on a low dose of thyroid, since my blood count showed it was low, and I have gained another 10 pounds (I was 70 overweight) in the last three months. My concern is that the thyroid pills taste sweet, suggesting to me that they have sugar in them.
Any comment on sugar in thyroid pills, even if it doesn’t say ‘sugar’ on the label?
If you have your thyroid and your iodine levels as low get a liquid Iodine at heath food store or Amazon, rub a little everyday on your wrist or arm, most people do not get enough in their diets and salt that says it has Iodine is not real, its a chemical that goes away once exposed to the air..anyway your thyroid is a immune machine keep it fueled.
I recently read that some thyroid medicines contain gluten and sugar. I’ve been on them on super high dose of 300 mcg a day. YES 300… 2 zeros. I have had my thyroid removed. For decades I struggled and no doctor could do more than increase my doses. I wasn’t absorbing it.
Finally last year, I had an attack on my system. All the things I’ve been telling the doctors finally came full surface t one time rather than here and there.
They had to look deeper than my doses. They always treated me like they thought I was being irresponsible and not taking them.
Thus time showing up in the ERb with half my face numb, too dizzy to walk, an inability to remember short term forgetting EVERYTHIG told to me 20 minutes ago, gas, bloating, and feeling like I was passing out rather than falling asleep AND falling asleep in a short moment (like passing b out into a comma) feeling like I had been drugged and needing 16 hours of sleep at a time. I was being attacked by my immune system HARD!
They took the steps of doing an MRI and then a lumbar puncture and diagnosed MS.
Evidence provides facts showing I may have had MS all along and thats where it all should have started in my treatment.
You need to be your OWN primary caregiver.
Don’t trust one piece of info from any Dr.
Do your research and find a functional nutrition practitioner. They will help you better than ANY Dr. or specialist.
Good luck
Hi Melissa, your ms symptoms sound similar to what i’ve been having for 15 years. Recently my body started acting up overtime (so many things going awry…diziness, extreme sensitivity to heat, on one side of the body numbness and weird temperatures sensation. I’ve been following dr gundry’s method per my doc’s recs. Though i do believe there are certain things we eat that can be harmful, i wonder if my issues are more than an imbalanced gut. So i think i’m gonna get myself checked out more thoroughly. If you don’t mind sharing, how have you been able to cope with symptoms once you got a proper diagnosis for MS?
I just did the three day cleanse, and starting phase two. I see eggs are prohibited for the first week per above but OK in phase two per Plant Paradox book after the three day. I wonder if I should just eliminate eggs for phase 2…
What about olive oil?
In Dr. Gundry’s books he says olive oil is fine for all stages!
Is kefir ok to eat?
I would like to hear what Dr. G would suggest for patients with both Celiac Disease and Microscopic Colitis. There are millions of us out there.
I see all these questions. Are there any answers given ??
What about Choplets By Worthinton Foods
Made of soy protein high pressure cooked noted to have MSG. Portable vegetarian just got turned onto it recently.
Thanks Enjoy your products and your most recent book on longevity.
Stay the heck away from all soy..even from a heath food store, its all GMO and makes your body crazy with the hormones.
yo that post so interesting
ok
Does this also include stevia/monkfruit?
I had Cushing decease 40 year ago, I received promtom bean teraphy now I have pan pitituarism and on steroids. My blood pression usually is hight because of it, what natural pill shoul I take for it.
Hi Bought your book on Diet Evolution, It is a great source of information, however I’m finding it difficult to work out and follow the stages. I have just printed your shopping list and that will be a good start in trying to sort out what / not eat-buy etc. You have a lot of info and to me is a bit scattered. I have to take notes on products I need to use with the different recipes and info in other places on the same product.
I purchased the Guidry Plant Paradox Protein Shake, and the PreBiotic powder. Can I use this shake instead of the recipe for Week #1?
are there foods a person recently diagnosed with ms should avoid?
Dr. Gundry,
In one of your podcasts I heard recently, you said that not all of the Blue Zones eat beans.
I can find no reference to this anywhere. Can you find me a reference for this.
Also, I know I saw either a video or a podcast where you said how much meat per day is acceptable ( not red meat) and also no more than 4 eggs per day. Are the 4 eggs part of the number of oz per meat allowed without affecting longevity.
Just one more, Isn’t goat considered red meat and I read a study that said goat milk and cheese contained Neu5Gc.
Thanks
Doug
fats (along with other edibles–including pasteured eggs, dairy, olive, mct…) are triggering my mucous production to the point where I am choking on the mucus. Persistent runny nose. I have Multiple Sclerosis and we thought the choking was “just the MS” since so many MS’ers have that problem. (I figured out that it’s certain foods and I now try to stay away from them).
But I can’t do the protocol because the fat ingestion is nearly causing me to “drown” in my own mucus production. I’m desperate. Please help (I noticed the correlation to fats and other food intake years ago). I also have ataxia and the “drunk” feeling, which practitioners also say “is just the MS…).
Thank you so much.
Hello. I have a question about the Lectin level in Urad Dahl dosas.
It’s an Indian fermented “flatbread” called a Dosa and it’s made of uncooked white rice and urad dahl. The rice and dahl and soaked separately for up to 8 hours, then the dahl and rice are ground separately in a blender, mixed together and then fermented. When I grind the rice, there are still the tiniest grain particles, a little bigger than a salt grain, and not that many of them. My husband is very worried that those tiny particles are creating lectins, because they are uncooked and fermenting won’t stop the lectins.
This is a very important question because we eat these every morning.
Is Guar Gum OK?
Dr Gundry,
I have found that the anti-inflammatory protocols are higher in protein due to the elimination of fruits, legumes and lectin foods. I happen to react to protein in that my uric acid levels rise, and I start to have symptoms of gout. Any thoughts of why I get some benefits, then start other problems? For example, the Carnivore diet, I believe would never work with me d/t MTHFR gene mutation that causes me to not detox very efficiently. I believe I accumulate a bunch of uric acid or my liver just doesn’t really detox very well. Do you have any thoughts on solutions? I do feel the best when I can sustain a vegan diet. But socially and with a full time scheduled of work and school, being a vegan is almost impossible. But then I hear people like Dr Saladino talk and it throws me for a loop. Anyway, I’m a bit at a loss. Quick background: I currently have Hashimotos, mild Osteoarthritis, eczema on my hands, had in the past lost of candida issues, have difficulty with digestion, constipation at times, then loose stools, get extreme bloated when consuming dairy in general, gluten causes gut discomfort. My practitioner did recommend for me the Paleo diet. Lately I have been trying to go with your recipes and recommendations that do no conflict with the Paleo diet.
My husband is substantially underweight. I’m afraid he will loose more on this plan. Any extra help, suggestions are appreciated. I been giving him the Plant based shakes(we love them) but for him I give it with a meal or as a snack.
If your husband suffers from a lack of appetite I have a suggestion.
It sounds too simple to be true but begin with food that encourages saliva production and also be sure he smells the food for a little while before taking the first bite. Then tell him to chew his food to a liquid before swallowing. We should all do these things but particularly people with low appetite or heartburn.
Saliva serves multiple purposes. Wetting the food for swallowing is the only one most of us think of when we eat.
However, your saliva carries enzymes that actually start digesting the food before you swallow Those enzymes prep your stomach for food coming down by telling your food to release acid which will be MANDATORY for proper digestion.
Many people think that when they get heart burn or acid reflux that they need to get rid of the acid. But MOST of the time that burn actually is your body’s inability to create enough acid so a tsp of apple cider viniger in 8 oz of water will fix it.
Taking antacids for heartburn actually helps for a moment but results in making the true problem even worse sending you back for more drugs just to repeat the same cycle. If you doubt just try the apple cider vinegar (with the mother in it/ it will say mother on the bottle) You’ll probably never touch an antacid again after that. It’s instant relief.
Smelling the food before you eat gets the juices flowing. It brings on hunger by creating the acid we need to stop heartburn from happening.(unless your body can’t make enough, that’s when using apple cider vinigar can be used to do it for you.
1. You smell the food or eat something that creates saliva.
2.Y our taste buds water with enzymes like Amalaise.
3. That triggers your stomach to produce acid
4. The acid makes you hungry.
5. You bite the food and mix it with saliva.
6. The saliva starts the digestive process on the carbs in your food instantly before they hit your stomach.
7. If you have taken time to chew food flat exposing all the surface of the food to being saturated by saliva/enzymes then it should be well on it’s way and acid should be ready in your stomach.
However, If your a gulper or use a drink to wash it down…hello heart burn. Drinks don’t carry saliva enzymes.
If appetite is an issue then take more time to build the hunger with saliva building teases like Smelling the food as it cooks. Inhaling the aromas before you eat. Use sour flavors (lemon juice/pickles, etc) to create a mouth watering reaction. Then chew slowly. The appetite should improve and the person will possibly eat more.
This slow chewing also allows the body to recieve the message that you’re full too for over eaters who eat faster than their body can respond to.
This works great on elderly or people who have been ill. It sounds backwards but it can help thin undereaters to eat more and overeaters to eat less.
It’s a free method and simple. I recommend everybody try it. 😃🤗
May I suggest: think about using Fresh Organic Goats milk if possible. Being it is naturaly homodgnized, thus easier to digest…And if you have not done so already check into using Homeopathic medicines as to Alopathic.. Most Homeopathic Meds can be found over the counter at your local pharmacy and/or Health Stores..In Alaska you can buy these at local Fred Meyers, health stores and local pharmacies 🙂 Be as it may, this form of medicine has been around for generations and has well proven it’self…
MD Anderson’a Cancer Center, in South Texas, has Homeopathic Doctors on staff.. If posible try to locate you a copy of “Quick Bed-Side Prescriber”…
Learn all you can reguarding Dr. Gundry’s take reguarding the virius as he is right on!
When using homeopathic medicines remeber to treat the symptoms not the disease 🙂
Will this diet help with insulin resistantance?
how can i learn to read my inflammation markers on blood work, what to look for as important indicates and what type of blood work is recommended to determine a healthy gut?
The rest of us would like to see the answers to many of these questions also. Can you publish the answers?
Dr. Gundry:
Where are your answers to these questions? Otherwise, what’s the point?
I agree. I don’t see any answers.
NOPE!! MAKES YOU WONDER RIGHT?? WAS THINKING OF BUYING ONE OF HIS BOOKS – BUT I DON’T THINK I WILL NOW.
Is unsweetened cocoa powder okay?
I’m going to start phase 2 and I’m vegan and I just wanted to know what vegan cheese can I have?
Dr. Gundry,
I would like to make my own fermented vegetables that are on the “Yes List,” is this okay? If so, which phase can I eat them?
Sincerely,
Jim
Hi, I am on Phase One. What may I substitute for shrimp in Phase Two where it calls for Shrimp risotto? Many thanks!
I eat seafood, but no shrimp.
I suffer from Neuropathy induced by Vincristine, one of many chemicals included in my Chemotherapy Cocktail. My Oncologist and Primary Physician state that the nerve damage is permanent and the discomfort and pain are outweighed by the fact that I am in remission from Cancer. I take a mild Opiate (Tramadol) to control the pain and have tried everything from Acupuncture to Marijuana for relief but to no avail. Can you guarantee full relief if I follow your program to the letter?
I am interested in trying the Plant Paradox diet to address chronic IBS and connective tissue disease. I have tried both conventional and non-conventional treatments with mixed results. But, nothing has stuck … and it feels like every day my body has some sort of new surprise for me. Autoimmune skin issues, muscle soreness and weakness, joint pain, constant (and I mean constant) GI issues … I can feel sick after just a few bites of food.
I have not followed the traditional “healthy” diet for a long time … having done strict keto for a couple of years. I’ve avoided grains and added healthy fats etc. etc. etc. So, much of this has been (accidentally) incorporated into my diet. But, the Plant Paradox seems more nuanced.
My question, though, is about tree nuts. They give me terrible GI symptoms without fail. It almost seems like I don’t digest them at all. Tree nuts seem to be a big part of this … Can I still do the diet? If my gut heals, could I eat tree nuts again? How do I proceed? Thanks!
I am so hungry in this phase 1 – 3 day cleanse. Do we have to stick to exactly those portions or can we have more?
Can I use 1 unripe pear when I cold press my green juice during Phase 1?
Can I use 1 I in ripe pear when I green juice during Phase 1?
