130: Worried about dementia? This is a must-hear
Here’s a shocking statistic: A new case of dementia is diagnosed every 3 seconds.
And it’s estimated that over 50 million people worldwide are struggling with some form of dementia… a number that’s expected to rise to 82 million by 2030.
In fact, I bet you know someone who has struggled with dementia themselves.
Now, it hasn’t received much press, but there IS something that might be a major breakthrough in our understanding the causes and prevention of dementia.
And today I’ll be chatting with one of the researchers behind this breakthrough, Dr. Dayan Goodenowe.
Dr. Goodenowe is the founder and CEO of Prodrome Sciences and has spent the past 30 years researching the biochemical signs of aging and disease.
On today’s episode, he and I are going to discuss his exciting new research into the causes of dementia, what your blood can tell you about YOUR risk for dementia and Alzheimer’s, and why we might soon unlock the secrets of the aging brain.
In this episode, you’ll learn:
- How a 100 year-old discovery could actually help us solve the dementia puzzle (2:50)
- The critical molecule that’s essential for preventing Alzheimer’s — and why you can’t get it from your diet (7:45)
- Why dementia might NOT originate in the brain — and why it might actually come from THIS surprising organ instead (14:15)
- The nutrient you can get from food that’s CRITICAL for helping prevent Parkinson’s Disease (18:25)
- One type of exercise that can turn your muscles into “tiny livers” (and why that’s a GOOD thing!) (21:45)
- Why THIS test may be the most important thing you do for your brain health after age 60 (and why it’s NOT easy to do right now) (27:00)
- The most under-diagnosed dietary deficiencies — and how to fix them (35:00)
- How plasmalogens affect the “Alzheimer’s gene” APoE4 (51:00)
- The oil that’s neither good nor bad (and the ONE group of people who you should consume it) (54:30)
- One of the BIGGEST mistakes many vegans make with their diet (56:20)

Oh my goodness, this podcast has the worst audio of the guest that I have ever heard on Dr Gundry’s podcast or YouTube video. Either Dr Goodenowe’s nice brick backdrop and surroundings were causing a horrible echo or he has the worst mic system or whoever is the audio person on Dr Gundry’s end dropped the ball this time because Dr G sounds fine.
I will need to read the transcript because I got very little from Dr Goodenowe’ responses because I would have to turn it down to the point that I lost a lot of information.
Bad audio.
Thank you for providing the transcript pdf! It was almost impossible to follow due to poor audio.
Incredible findings. Super excited to see how testing gets distributed.
Agradeço ao Dr.Steven Gundry a inovadora informação que nos propiciou, e o generoso esforço de evangelização Holística sem precedentes, que está a humanizar o conceito mercantilista de saúde! BEM HAJA!
Bad audio, I have more questions than answers.
